On behalf of the Organizing and Steering Committees, we sincerely welcome you to the 2018 International Power Electronics Conference, IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia-. The first IPEC was held in 1983, and since then, in 1990, 1995, 2000, and 2005, IPEC’s have been held in different locations, sponsored by the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ). Since 2010, IPEC has had the additional function of the power electronics conference series which is held in the three country rotation of China, Japan and Korea, and has also been held as one of the ECCE Asia conferences due to cooperation with the IEEE Power Electronics Society and IEEE Industry Applications Society. After IPEC-Hiroshima 2014, the eighth International Power Electronics Conference, IPEC-Niigata 2018-ECCE Asia-, will be held from May 20 to May 24, 2018 in Niigata, Japan. The conference venue will be the Niigata Convention Center, Toki Messe, which faces to the estuary of the Shinano River, the longest river in Japan.

Power electronics has been providing numerous new technologies in the fields of electric energy conversion and motor drive systems for more than 50 years. In recent years, global energy and environmental issues are becoming more serious and power electronics is expected to play a key role in solving such problems. The IPEC Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia- will provide a unique opportunity for researchers, engineers, and academics from all over the world to present and exchange the latest information on power electronics, motor drives, and related subjects.

Niigata, the conference venue, is the capital city of Niigata Prefecture and located at 300 kilometers (186 miles) northwest of Tokyo in the main land of Japan. Niigata is a major port city with more than 150 years of history. Echigo Plain which surrounds Niigata city is fertile. Due to these good circumstances, Niigata is very rich in fresh seafood, finest rice, a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and Sake (Japanese traditional rice wine). Everyone will enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Shinano River, and can also savor Japanese traditional foods.

We are sure that all the participants will have a memorable and enjoyable time in Niigata. We hope you will submit a paper and enjoy the IPEC-Niigata 2018 -ECCE Asia-.
