GENERAL INFORMATION

Passport and Visa

Every foreign visitor entering Japan must have a valid passport.
Visitors from visa required countries should apply to a Japanese consular office or diplomatic mission in their respective country. For further details, please contact your travel agent or the local consular office in your country.

Customs

Japanese customs is fairly lenient and allows bringing in items necessary for personal use. Duty-free imports are: 3 bottles of liquor; 400 cigarettes or 100 cigars; 2 ounces of perfume; gift and souvenirs other than the above whose total market value dose not exceeded ¥200,000.
Strictly prohibited are firearms and other types of weapons, and narcotics.

Insurance

The organizer cannot accept responsibility for accidents which might occur. People who attend the Conference are encouraged to obtain travel insurance (medical, personal accident, and luggage) in their home country prior to departure.

Time

The local time in Japan is GMT+9 h.

Weather and clothing

The temperature in Hiroshima during the period of the Symposium typically ranges between 14°C and 24°C. It is recommended to bring light jacket, light sweater and other similar kinds of tops in the morning and the evening.

Currency Exchange/Cashing

Only Japanese yen (¥) is acceptable at regular stores and restaurants. Certain foreign currencies and credit cards may be accepted at limited number of hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. You can buy YEN at foreign exchange banks and other authorized money exchangers on presentation of your passport.

Traveler’s checks and Credit Cards

Traveler’s Checks are accepted only by leading banks and major hotels in principal cities, and the use of traveler’s checks in Japan is not as popular as in some other countries.

Tipping

In Japan, tips are not necessary anywhere, even at hotel and restaurants.

Electricity

Electric current is uniformly 100 V AC throughout Japan, but with two different frequencies: 50 Hz in eastern Japan including Tokyo, and 60 Hz in western Japan including Hiroshima, Kyoto and Osaka.
Leading hotels in major cities have two outlets of 100 and 220 V but their sockets usually accept a two-pin plug only.

Credit cards, ATMs

International credit cards like the American Express, VISA, MASTERCARD, Diners Club and JCB will be accepted at hotels, main facilities, and stores.
The ATMs placed in the post offices and at 7-Eleven convenience stores throughout Japan will accept withdrawals on credit cards issued abroad. On or around such machines, a notice "International ATM Service" and stickers showing VISA, VISA Electron, PLUS, MASTERCARD, Maestro, Cirrus, American Express, Diners Club International, JCB, etc., logos are displayed.

Shopping

Most department stores are open form 10:00a.m.to 7:00p.m. They are open on Sundays and national holidays. Business hour for retail shops differ from each other, most operate from 10:00a.m.to 20:00p.m and are open on Sundays and national holidays.

HIROSHIMA CITY

Hiroshima City, the world renowned as "City of Pease" is the capital of Hiroshima Prefecture. It is also known as a beautiful city, endowed with nature and an environment including the Seto Inland Sea, six rivers flowing through its mountains, and an urban area full of green.

Hiroshima's Peace Park including the memorial museum, and the island of Miyajima are among Japan's most interesting tourist attractions.
