Reliability of electric power distribution in Japan is very high, however, we have sudden power drops due to the lightning and other natural causes. Some factories would be affected from such a sudden power drops, because the accurate production line would be suddenly stopped, which causes the decrease of production quality, needs a lot of time to re-start the line, and so on. Therefore, the power compensation system for such sudden power drops plays an important role for the effective production with good quality. In this tour, we will take a tour to a factory having the Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) system to see the SMES system.
